The Men and Women of Yesteryear

The Men and Women of Yesteryear
By Toni Gamarro

The men and women of yesteryear,
in my heart I hold dear.
They were cut from a different mold,
strong, determined and bold.
Their love for this country was burned in their soul,
even as war after war took its toll.
These men and women were a strong breed,
determination was their creed.
I often listened to the stories they told,
hearing them never grew old.
They talked of when this country went to war,
and the men were called to serve the corps,
which they did with pride in their heart,
hugging their families, saying good bye to their sweetheart.
Off they marched to protect the red, white and blue,
while most women stayed here to do what they had to,
serving their country in a different way.
Today they would shake their heads in dismay,
at the way the people of this great land
are afraid to take a stand,
allowing us to be divided again,
by nasty, hate filled women and men.
It’s sad when you think of all they went through
to protect the freedoms of the red, white, and blue.
Freedoms many take for granted today.
What’s the big deal they say!
Perhaps you should open a book and read,
learn about this strong breed,
of men and women who carved the way,
so you could have a future today.
A reason to hold your head high and proud,
to be able to speak and be heard above the crowd.
To be free to do as you so choose,
each of us able to have our own views.
Amazing how they carved out the land
and a constitution on which we could stand.
Yes, some stories I heard with my own two ears
and others were read in books through the years.
We have so many to thank for the freedoms we are blessed.
Why do we put it to the test?
Stand together united and true,
protect the freedoms of the red, white, and blue.
No fighting from within
because that is how evil will win.
The men and women of yesteryear
knew how to overcome their fear.
If they were here to speak today
I think I know what they would say.
Protect your freedoms and stand united,
don’t become shortsighted.
Do not let their work be tossed aside,
hold your head high with American Pride,
for they believed in the task at hand.
They fought hard for this great land,
and it’s our job to see it through,
we must always protect the red, white and blue.

When Are We Going to Learn?

Hello everyone,

I know I've been quiet for a while and I do apologize. I was hoping by now things in this country would have turned around and the people would realize they need to work together in order to bring this country around. Unfortunately that is not what is happening. I'm not putting all of this on the Democrats because we all know there are some very nasty Republicans as well but it needs to stop. This is not what our forefathers had in mind for this country. I do not believe it was their dream.
For their time they believed they were doing what was right for this country and they knew as the times changed so would our laws, our Constitution but the main frame of it will stand strong.

I listen to people when we talk about illegal aliens and deportation. How so many are willing to stand up and say everyone has a right to be in this country and we should just let them be, after all, we aren't here legally because the Native Americans were here first. We invaded their land. Yes, we did. We came to this country with a dream and a hope for a new start. These men and women were not perfect but their vision was to have a better life for their families then they had across the pond. War broke out between the Native Americans and the settlers but it is no different than any other country who saw what they wanted and fought for it. Look at the wars of this world, they are always over land and who is going to come out on top. The new governments that takes over changes things to suit their way of life, their beliefs. That being said, I do not agree with the way our Native Americans were treated but I do not feel we are illegal in our own country.

I can't say what our forefathers were thinking when they went to war with the Native Americans or what our Native Americans were thinking when they went to war with our forefathers but I do know in all wars there is supposed to be a winner and loser. There is no trophy in war for just participating, you have to do what needs to be done in order to get the gold ring. I have a few Native American friends, some who grew up on a reservation and others who haven't. I love them with all my heart and I know my life is better for knowing them. I have learned so much from each one and I hope I have touched their lives just the same. I wish our forefathers and theirs could have found a better way to get along and figure out how to share this great land on an equal basis but that was a different time.

Today we have laws in place to protect us from people who are not here legally. There seems to be a problem with some Americans understanding the word illegal. We have people who have come to this great nation to improve their lives the right way for the time they were coming here. Over the years we have changed requirements and procedures for entering this country legally and there are people who wait for the privileged to be able to come here according to our laws. These people are properly vetted, they want to come to this country and become a part of it, become a citizen. They are proud to do so and yet we have American citizens ashamed to be American citizens.

They slap this country in the face by not standing for the national anthem, they protest to allow illegals in this country, the fight to get rid of ICE whose job is to keep the people of this great nation, including those fighting against it from within, safe. When do we stop and start working together?
When do we start to realize our laws were made to protect all American citizens? When do we start working together, with our President, regardless of your political affiliation, to improve this great nation? To bring it back to what our forefathers saw in their vision for our shores, for what we remember growing up, and for what President Trump is fighting for.

Are  you all really so against making a better life for yourself, your children and your grandchildren that you don't see the evil fighting to invade us from within? Are you really so blind you don't understand the importance of not giving it all away but letting people work for a living and obey our laws? I believe we need to start teaching our children, once again, about the history of this great land. The real history not the imaginary version so many have come up with over the years. Teach our children respect, values, and honor. Teach them to love this land because we are different than other countries and we strive to be better in order to make their lives better with each generation. We seem to be taking steps backwards instead of moving ahead and improving this generation. We can't allow that. We need to stand with President Trump and fight for what we believe in, America, our people, and our Constitution.

May God help guide us in the right direction and May God Bless America!
